Frequently asked questions
What are the most gender-neutral baby names?
In 2025, the most evenly split (closest to 50/50 between boys and girls) US name in our data was Tatum. We measure this from the SSA's separate boy and girl counts: a name is most "gender-neutral" when the smaller sex's share is closest to half. The top names are Tatum, Charlie, Rory, Parker, River, Riley.
How is the boy/girl split measured?
The SSA reports separate counts for boys and girls. For each name used for both, we divide the two counts to get the percentage given to each sex. Names ranked closest to a 50/50 split are listed first. Only names that have a tracked page for both sexes appear.
