About NameTrends
NameTrends is an independent reference for US baby name popularity and trends. We turn the U.S. Social Security Administration's public-domain baby-name data into fast, readable pages: the most popular names of 2025, every tracked name's rank and birth count over time back to 1880, top names by year and by state, and rankings such as all-time favourites, fastest-rising and gender-neutral names.
What we publish
- Name history pages for 661 names (boys and girls counted separately).
- Top 100 names by year, with a snapshot for each decade back to 1880.
- Top names in all 51 states (plus DC) for the latest year.
- Insight rankings: all-time, rising, falling, gender-neutral, comebacks.
- A blog analysing the latest trends.
How we work
Every figure is a real SSA count. We download SSA's national and state files, parse them, and pre-render static pages - there is no live API and nothing is estimated. The SSA does not publish name meanings or origins, so we deliberately do not invent any; our pages present only what the data shows. See our methodology for sources, snapshot date and known limitations.
Who is behind it
NameTrends is maintained by an independent editorial team that builds data-reference sites. We are not affiliated with the Social Security Administration or any government agency.
